Dixie County Recent Arrest Sources
The place to begin is the Dixie County Sheriff's Office SmartCop JAIL View. It pairs the live roster with a clearly labeled "BOOKED Last 24 Hours" area. Each result can carry a booking photo. It may also list the person's name, custody status, booking number, booking date and time, bond, charges, arresting agency, and holds. One caution applies to times. The stamp reflects the booking, not necessarily the moment of arrest or transport. DCSO posts no fixed refresh schedule. So a brand-new arrest may not appear right away. Pick the time window that fits your question, and note when you ran the search.
| Window | Source | Verified use | Limit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Last 24 hours | Arrests Last 24 Hours | SmartCop cards and timestamps | No fixed posting-lag promise |
| Several days | Police Blotter | Named log plus date-filter fallback | Named log had no visible rows |
| Older dates | SmartCop date filters | Records still returned | Not a certified full archive |
Dixie County recent arrests: Every booking entry below comes straight from the sheriff's office and local law enforcement. Each item lists one arrest, not a court outcome.
Why Dixie Arrest Feeds Differ
Dixie County arrest feeds behave in an odd way. SmartCop carries a live last-24-hours view of arrests. The separate official DCSO Arrest Log, though, shows only a heading. No rows appear. No dates, no archive buttons, and no stated time window. That blank page does not mean nobody was arrested in Dixie County, and its title alone promises no weekly or 72-hour history. To widen the span, set a Begin Booking Date and an End Booking Date in SmartCop. Release-date filters can surface some older custody entries too.
A fresh booking can lag online. Someone arrested in Dixie County may have been cited and released, moved to another facility, transferred, or held back under an exemption. For a time-sensitive answer, search the live roster first. Then call (352) 498-1231, ask for Jail Control Room extension 221, and make a precise records request. You can also test the VINELink Custody Check for custody notices. A missing result there is not conclusive.
For alerts, the official Dixie Alert page displays the Everbridge safety service.
Dixie Alert carries hazards and safety messages only. It is not a booking, warrant, release, or mugshot feed, and the sheriff's office lists no dedicated jail app.
Search the Dixie County Roster
SmartCop demands at least one search criterion. Name fields work well for a person-focused search. Booking and release dates give you a bounded check instead. Sorting controls tidy the results. The first screen may not be everything, since "Load more results" can appear. Open the full card and save the booking number, date, agency, status, bond, and case number before you move on to another source.
| Field | Use | Caution |
|---|---|---|
| Last, first, middle name | Find one known person | Try spelling variants |
| Booking dates | Create an arrest window | Booking time may differ from arrest time |
| Release dates | Find some prior custody | Not a certified release history |
| Sort and order | Arrange cards | Does not alter coverage |
Use the roster in a repeatable sequence:
- Open SmartCop and enter at least one name or date field.
- For current activity, inspect “BOOKED Last 24 Hours.”
- Open the result and note the booking number and time.
- Read custody, bond, charges, agency, and holds as time-sensitive fields.
- Use the case number in OCRS for later proceedings.
The official roster screen shows Dixie County’s name and date controls.
The SmartCop JAIL View search screen appears here as a search aid, not a photo gallery.
Where Dixie Arrest Records Appear
Each channel covers a different stage of the record. Official sources must lead, because copied records may lag, omit corrections, or linger after custody changes.
| Channel | Photo? | Status | Scope |
|---|---|---|---|
| DCSO SmartCop | When available | Official | County booking and custody |
| Dixie OCRS | Usually no | Official | Court case and disposition |
| FDC search | May show on detail | Official | State prison or supervision |
| RecentlyBooked | Often | Unofficial | Copied county booking data |
| Mugshots.com | Often | Unofficial | Florida aggregator category |
| HardisonInk | Sometimes | Unofficial news | Selective regional stories |
RecentlyBooked's Dixie section says it draws on public sheriff data and refreshes several times daily, though that claim carries no DCSO guarantee. Mugshots.com's Florida index lists Dixie County too. Both are unofficial and may be incomplete or stale. The Arrests.org route runs hot and cold. Neither Busted Newspaper nor Mugshots.zone publishes a Dixie-specific section. HardisonInk's regional police-news page carries selective DCSO material.
The capture documents a secondary news channel, not a complete or current arrest log.
Dixie County Arrests by City
Only two incorporated places exist in Dixie County, so there are two city pages. Cross City serves as the county seat and runs its own police department. Cross City Police arrests get booked at Dixie County Jail and show up in SmartCop. Cross City Recent Arrests walks through both record routes.
Horseshoe Beach has no separate police department or town arrest feed. DCSO is the practical enforcement and booking contact. Horseshoe Beach Recent Arrests explains that countywide path. Residence, arrest location, and arresting agency are three different things. A city name may not appear on every booking card.
Cross City records also need a custodian check. The town police page names a municipal public-record liaison for police reports. DCSO controls the county jail booking card and image. Ask the town for its incident or arrest report. Ask DCSO for the booking card and jail photograph. Horseshoe Beach Town Hall does not serve as a police booking custodian. That split matters. One arrest event can create records at more than one office. A single search can return only part of the file.
Dixie County Booking Record Fields
Booking is the administrative step that creates a jail custody record after an arrest. SmartCop offers more than a headline blotter would. Still, it is not an incident report or a final court history. Identifiers help separate people with similar names.
| Field | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Name and demographics | Surname-first name, sex, race, birth date, and age at booking |
| Booking number and MNI | Separate jail identifiers, not the case or FDC number |
| Date and time | Jail timestamp, not necessarily arrest time |
| Custody status | A changing label such as “In Jail” |
| Bond and holds | Current conditions or another agency claim |
| Charge table | Statute, charge, degree, bond, arrest and case numbers |
| Photo | Agency intake image when displayed |
- Bond
- A court-set release condition, not a sentence.
- Hold
- Another agency or process may affect release.
- Disposition
- The court’s later result.
- Expungement
- A court process affecting qualifying records.
Dixie County Mugshots and Arrests
When a SmartCop booking card carries a photo, DCSO publishes it. Nothing in sheriff policy fixes when the picture is taken or posted. It also stays silent on corrections and retention. Juvenile, sealed, or expunged material may be missing. A released arrestee can drop from the current view. The county still keeps the underlying booking record, though.
For a lawful personal or court purpose, request the image on its own. Anyone sentenced to state prison belongs in the FDC offender search, whose detail record may carry a different photo. Cross City Correctional Institution is a state prison. It is not the Dixie County Jail. A local booking does not create an FDC record.
A county image, an FDC image, and a news image come from different places. The first belongs to one intake. The second sits in a state correctional record. A news outlet may crop, relabel, or keep an agency photo after the roster moves on. Match the name, booking number, arresting agency, and date before calling two images the same event. If an image looks wrong, take it to the office that created or now holds the record.
No photo galleries are hosted here. Unofficial pages can keep an old charge alive after release or court action, so weigh them against DCSO and OCRS.
Request Dixie County Arrest Records
The DCSO Records Division accepts requests in person at 214 NE 351 Highway, Suite L, Cross City. Mail works too. Send it to PO Box 470, Cross City, FL 32628. Enclose a stamped, self-addressed envelope. The division researches requests on receipt and answers in a timely manner, by its own account. No photo price or fixed turnaround is posted. An active investigative record may be withheld, with notice.
Give the full name, date range, arresting agency, booking number, and case number. Ask for the booking card, photo, charge page, and release or bond data separately. Request an electronic copy and a fee estimate. If anything is withheld, ask which exemption applies.
Under §119.07, one-sided copies run up to 15 cents per page, two-sided pages 5 cents more, and certified copies up to $1 per page. The official records page shows the route.
Ask the office about current copy costs and availability.
Florida Arrest Photo Law
Chapter 119 opens nonexempt records to public inspection. Protected portions can be redacted. §985.04 shields juvenile records generally and lets custodians decline to publish juvenile booking photos online, subject to exceptions. So a missing image may reflect law or policy.
§901.43 targets commercial booking-photo publishers that charge for removal or profit mainly from publishing photos. The subject, or a representative, sends a written request to the registered agent with identification and photo details. Registered mail is required. A covered publisher must remove the photo free within 10 calendar days, but the law does not force DCSO to erase a current public record.
RecentlyBooked runs an error and removal route. Mugshots.com says it removes expunged items without charge. Muglist posts a removal link. These private policies change and promise nothing, so never assume payment is required. Save the URL and the demand, use the free statutory route when it fits, and get legal advice.
Sealing and expungement are separate proceedings under §943.0585 and §943.059. Eligibility hinges on disposition and other limits. FDLE instructions cover the certificate, certified disposition, $75 fee, and court filing; the certificate stays valid 12 months while the judge decides the petition.
Older Dixie Arrest Records
Florida's GS2 schedule sets a floor, not a deadline. Booking records, 24-hour commitment and release lists, and incarceration records must be kept at least one full year past release. Jail docket books are different. That series is permanent, so old docket entries can survive long after individual cards vanish. Agencies keep records well past the minimum all the time, and none of it guarantees SmartCop stays online. Ask DCSO which series applies. Once a booking number and date are known, requesting an old record becomes far easier.
Photos do not automatically move to the State Archives. Nothing in that arrangement promises a mugshot will surface there. The clerk may hold a different court history after a jail card disappears from view. Search OCRS first. Then ask DCSO, then request the court file itself. Old newspapers add color, but a clipping is no substitute for the sheriff's full archive.
Collect identifiers before contacting any archive. You want the full booking name, the approximate date, the booking number, the arresting agency, and the court case number. Confirm with DCSO that the booking series is still in its custody. Ask the clerk about case access separately. The local record may never have transferred, so a failed archive search does not prove destruction. A newspaper mention proves only that a story ran.
Keep the record series straight. A permanent docket book is not the same item as a booking card, a release list, a photograph, an incident report, or a court file. DCSO can identify which series it still holds. The clerk controls the judicial record. Give both offices a narrow date range and the identifiers you have. That step prevents mix-ups and stops anyone reading a retention minimum as a promise of online access.
Dixie County Arrest Warrant Checks
Dixie County warrant checks go through the office itself. The sheriff's FAQ says to call or visit, and lists (352) 498-1231. The Civil Process and Warrants Division works from 214 NE Highway 351, Suite L. Its number is (352) 498-1220. Walk-in hours on weekdays run 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Civil service fees are separate from any warrant check.
The department posts no most-wanted gallery, public warrant portal, or Crime Stoppers form. SmartCop can show a hold after booking, but a blank roster result never clears an active warrant. Affected people should contact counsel or the court. Never approach or detain someone. Use 911 for an immediate threat and DCSO for other tips; the official warrants page gives the agency route.
The image documents contact details, not a wanted-person gallery or proof of a warrant.
After a Dixie County Arrest
DCSO says a person who cannot bond sees a judge within the first 24 hours. That appearance happens in person, by telephone, or by Polycom. The hearing covers the charge and bond early on. A displayed bond can change. "NO BOND" or a hold is never final.
The Dixie OCRS portal offers anonymous public access plus attorney, registered-user, and party routes. Enter the SmartCop case number when one appears. The clerk's records page is a second official entry. OCRS later carries amendments, a dismissal, a plea, a trial result, an acquittal, or adjudication. Different access levels reveal different fields.
The normal flow runs arrest, jail booking and photograph, first appearance, later court events, then disposition. Online, that order breaks down quickly. A SmartCop card can post before OCRS has a useful case entry. Bond can shift after the booking card was created. A hold from another county can stall release even when the local charge changes. Match booking number, arrest number, case number, agency, and dates instead of trusting a name alone. For a certified result, contact the clerk. The public roster tracks custody, not the judicial file.
What does released mean? Release describes custody, not the case outcome. A case can keep moving after jail release, and the docket shows where it lands.
Arrest Records Beyond Dixie County
FDC tracks sentenced state prisoners and people under its supervision, not every Dixie County arrest. Search by name or six-character DC number; a detail photo may appear. The BOP locator covers federal inmates from 1982 forward. It shows no public booking photo. The ICE locator handles current ICE custody and some CBP holds past 48 hours. It skips minors and offers no mugshots.
USMS complicates the picture. Federal pretrial detainees can sit in local or private facilities, so BOP may not list them. A blank result in one system settles nothing. Use SmartCop for county custody, OCRS for court activity, FDC for state custody, and each federal locator only for its own population.
Transfers make timing matter. SmartCop may still show the county stage while the receiving agency opens its own record. County entries change before other locators catch up. Save each date and status you see. Before testing VINELink for release alerts, confirm the name and county booking details. For the final result, return to the docket. Custody locators tell you where a person is held or supervised.
